Gov Team News:
Press Releases:
What is Gov Team? A project and competition based course at Monta Vista High School
(Cupertino, CA) in which students in teams of 5-6 work on simulated congressional hearings (as part of the Center for
Civic Education's We the People competition) and other authentic tasks. It will explore political philosophy, constitutional
history, constitutional law, domestic and foreign government institutions, civic engagement, and social economics. The year
long course fulfills both high school and UC/CSU subject requirements in government and economics. The team operates in a
100% paperless, 1-1 laptop collaborative classroom.

Gov Team, College Applicaiton Info: You list regular government (1 semester/fall) and
regular economics (1 semester/spring) on your registered senior courses list. Nor is it really useful or appropriate to list
is under extracurricular activities. Where you highlight that this class is different is in your college essays.
Gov Team is one of the rare classes that ask you to do more work, college level work, for the passion of learning, without any
of the external awards of GPA boosts or college credit (though hopefully you will be taking the AP government exam). This
is the kind of maturity and scholarship colleges like to see in college essays and applicants.
